We measure the home area by calculating the outside dimensions to determine the square footage. Using the measuring tape, measure the length and width of the building and multiply these exterior dimensions. Let us understand with an example. For suppose, the exterior dimensions of a building are 70 by 40 feet, then the square footage is 2800 square feet per floor. When measuring large areas, breaking it down into smaller sections will make it easier. In those projects, we broke our space into two rectangles that will be measured separately and then added together. Measure the first of these rectangles, starting with the width, followed by the length, and repeat the process on the second rectangle.
